Privacy policy

This policy explains how your personal data is handled, under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, EU Regulation 2016/679) and Spanish Organic Law 3/2018 on Data Protection and Digital Rights (LOPDGDD).
Data controller
Anna Andrés Bas (Words & Waves Spanish Lessons), tax ID 53947154X, Camí del Benarribat 5, 03730 Xàbia (Alicante), Spain. Email: [email protected] · Phone: +34 675 488 982.
What we collect
- Booking, waiting list and contact forms: name, email or phone, Spanish level, type of class, preferred place and times, and the message you write. If the class is for a child, also their age or level.
- If you are a student: what is needed to organise and charge for the classes (days and times, payments and, if you ask for an invoice, your tax ID and address).
- When you visit the website: the hosting provider logs technical data (IP address, browser, page visited and time) to serve the website and protect it from attacks. It is not used to find out who you are.
This website never asks for payment details or special categories of data. The fields marked as required are the minimum needed to answer you; without them your request cannot be handled.
What it is used for, and the legal basis
- Answering your question or class request: your consent when you send the form, and steps taken at your request before a contract (Article 6.1.a and 6.1.b GDPR).
- Organising, giving and charging for the classes: the class contract (Article 6.1.b GDPR).
- Letting you know when a place opens, if you join the waiting list: your consent (Article 6.1.a GDPR).
- Meeting tax and accounting obligations: legal obligation (Article 6.1.c GDPR).
- Keeping the website secure: legitimate interest in protecting the website (Article 6.1.f GDPR).
Your details are not used for advertising, are not sold and are not used for automated decisions or profiling.
Children
If the person concerned is under 14, their details must be sent by their mother, father or legal guardian, who gives the consent (Article 7 LOPDGDD). If we find that we have received the details of a child under 14 without that consent, we delete them.
Who else handles the data
Your details are not passed on to anyone, unless the law requires it (for example, to the Spanish Tax Agency). To work, the website and the teacher use these providers, which handle the data only to provide their service:
- WhatsApp (Meta Platforms Ireland): when you send a form by WhatsApp, or write there.
- Google (Google Ireland): the Gmail account where messages arrive and the calendar where classes are written down. The booking calendar on the website only shows which times are free or busy; it never shows names or details.
- Cloudflare: website hosting and protection from attacks.
- GitHub (Microsoft): stores the website’s code and texts. It holds no student data.
Some of these providers may handle data outside the European Economic Area (for example, in the United States). They do so with the safeguards the GDPR requires: the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
How your details travel
When you send a form, the message opens in your WhatsApp or your email app so that you send it yourself. The website does not store what you write: your details only reach the teacher when you send the message.
How long we keep it
- Questions that do not lead to classes: one year at most.
- Waiting list: until you get a place or ask to leave, and one year at most.
- Students: for as long as you are a student and then for the time the law requires for tax and accounting records (up to 6 years).
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete, object to, restrict or move your data, and withdraw your consent at any time, by writing to [email protected]. We will answer within one month at most. If you think your rights have not been respected, you can complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (www.aepd.es).
Photos
Photos of classes showing students are published with their permission. If you appear in one and want it removed, write to us and we will take it down.
